Poetry: Life Long Love
My Addiction
by Lesley Ann Huggins

Why does it seem I’ve suddenly changed?
Acting so differently
You must think I’m deranged.
I’ll tell you the truth,
I’ve become quite addicted to you.
A habit I must stop in its tracks,
Before I reach that point
Where there’s no turning back.
Weaning myself I’ve already tried.
Apart, it seemed to work for a while,
Together again, and I know that I’ve lied.
Cold turkey, the route I think I must go
For you seem to disregard the feelings I show.
I sometimes feel I’m wasting my emotions and time,
But damn you, I only love you more,
For your rebuffs were kind.
