Our Feelings Matter
by Emily
Growing up is hard to do,
It always feels like you're only halfway through.
It's the hardest plight, a battle you're bound to fight.
There are so many things you've come to understand, but there's so much more it's like you're on foriegn land.
Adults don't get you, even though they try,
they might have good advice, but to you it's as crazy as trying to make pigs fly.
Pain is something you know well, but if you inflict it on yourself, someones bound to tell.
Everything seems to be just out of reach, those subjects no one wants to teach. Teach us; be there, you don't have to keep saying, "Well, life isn't fair."
We've heard it enough, enough to make us sick. In fact, that saying's so annoying, I'd rather be poked and prodded with a stick.
We want to get close to our teacher's, but I', told it's not aloud. Maybe if we could; the dropouts, druggies, and suicides wouldn't be such a large crowd.
We must meet a high standard, we must be beautiful and fit.
Parents say we are, like we have some great gift.
That doesn't matter, if you're beautiful, you're allowed to be a mindless git.
One day, I know I'll see the big illustration, I'll find the motivation. I'm only a kid, and I wish I could keep it that way, but no matter what I say, time goes on, even if we feel it's wrong.
