The Day
by Bethany Yates
Underneath the fence,
Over and around the neighbor's yard,
Across the meadow,
Past the others,
Toward the willows,
At the fair.
Through the fence again,
Within the home,
Safe and sound,
Upon the lap of my master.
With him,
Beyond the day,
Until 9 o'clock,
About time for sleep.
For among the twinkling stars,
Throughout the night I sleep.
Like a student during class.
A dogs day.
