America
by Tristan Mullin
America is thousands of career paths
endless choices
various religions, education
but we cry for the homeless
and we try to help
yet we don't
and we judge religion and
don't take education seriously
even though we are the "land of opportunity"
America is a learning tool
through our victories in wars
and growing stronger as a nation
through our mistakes,
yet we cry for the many casualties of the past
and the loved ones lost
and we wonder if it was worth it,
for being the "home of the brave"
has it's downfalls
America is a flowing flag for freedom
a proud, respected eagle
a carefree baseball game in the sun
or a steaming apple pie just for fun
we are a melting pot
of intriguing cultures and backgrounds
no two people being the same
and at the same time
as that brings us variety
it also brings us pain
with the racism and assaults
the riots and violent protests
the past slavery and discrimination
child labor and poverty
yet we claim to be a fair and just nation
stable and strong
America strives to gain independence
and we've succeeded
yet we struggle to keep it
we take for granted our freedom
and as we do we're shocked
when people challenge it
shaken by the cruelty
and evilness that people possess
they try to crumble our foundation
break our barriers, but they can't
we stand strong and come together
we are strong like a rock
and although we've made mistakes
we will prevail
because this is America
the "land of the free"
and that is something to be proud of
