Looking Back Through The Snow
by Richard
When the snow first started,
forgotten feelings began to stir inside;
dancing and drifting like the petals
now parachuting around me.
My face defiant against a wall of white,
I continued to watch the falling flakes.
Straight down, sideways and in swirls,
it soon became a soft rhythmic blur.
My thoughts raced backwards then,
to winter time with my Dad.
There! - standing beyond the falling snow,
with my face sheltered against his shoulder.
He tries to protect it from the blowing snow;
but a few flakes still target my nose.
Yet, I felt his warmth and massive strength.
No monster could hurt me then.
Now tears began to cloud my eyes.
One even escaped, but froze along my cheek.
Smiling, I held my own child closer;
and went on looking back through the snow.
