Her Midlife Realization
by Susana Martinez
Like a prune, once a plum,
Now dark and wrinkled
Like a raisin, once a grape,
Now dried up and wrinkled
Did they go beyond ripe
But before rotten?
Tainted by the process of time
Dried up by the cycles of life?
Never thought I’d be
The prune
The raisin
The older WOMAN?
But they can still be sweet?
And edible!
They’re just a new breed
Of their original self
Better? Maybe
Oh! so that’s what I am
Not older or bitter
Just mature and better
Be proud of the new you,
Prune
Raisin
Older WOMAN
