Awake
by Judas
I arise from my sleep with night sweat in my hair
Memories of you, still binding me there
a bountiful joy found with rapture's embrace
and the vision of ecstasy writ on your face
But along with the morning, stark awareness returns
and a pain in my chest, thoughts of your presence burn
The soft sound of your breath, and a whimper from dreams
Where the colors are rich and the grasses are green
And the birds overhead sing a beautiful song
To the lessons of love for which we all long
But the day is too short, and there’s work to be done
So I leave you for now with your dreams of the sun
And a kiss on the forehead for memory’s sake
That when you awaken you’ll know I’m still there
Awaiting forever the time that we’ll share.
