Poetry: New Love
A New Dawn
by Douglas Tisdale

Many things happen we never anticipate,
We plan our ways but then along comes fate.
We plan to love, to hold on forever,
But love can elude and marriages sever.
It’s easy to get down and question our hearts.
Our desire is togetherness, not pieces and parts.
Many hearts are ripped out, torn and battered,
We look at our problems, not what really matters.
When God shines His light all things become new.
That broken heart shattered has now been renewed.
It happens sometimes when we least are aware,
We’re soaking in misery, gloom and despair.
Then out of the blue that light beam is seen,
Our smile returns freely our sadness now cleaned.
For me it had been just years of heartaches,
Every time I let my heart out it always would break.
Then one day I looked and a new day began,
It felt so amazing; it was like I’m a new man.
They have different names for the start of the day,
It’s always the best when you see that first ray,
I found out a new name and all on my own,
I found a precious jewel and her name is Dawn.
She has that light that shines on your face,
It gives you the strength to finish this race.
Her presence fills all things around her with joy,
A twelve year old girl and two little boys.
They have known the greatness of Dawn’s early light,
For her kids, her family til death will she fight.
All of these things make up this girl,
She is one of a kind a gem in this world.
I hope I continue to feel her embrace,
Dawn you are precious, my fears you erase.
I end this little poem with a hug and a kiss,
Your touch, your beauty I already do miss.
I don’t know what happens in the next year or two,
But one things for sure, I know it is true
I’m a new man, past hurts gone away,
All from a new Dawn and one of her rays.
Yes this is new, just a few weeks old,
But my hearts desire is to have you to hold.
Hold you tight to my chest, wrapped in my arms,
No matter the troubles, I will keep you from harm.
To caress your hair, to have your sweet lips on mine,
Nothing could be better than tasting that wine.
I look forward to the days of heavenly delight,
For now though I miss you, especially tonight.
