Poetry: New Love
Almost Wish I Didn't Know
by Alilce C. Bateman

Almost wish you'd never kissed me
'Cause now I'm still on fire
Ignited by your hands, your lips
Fueled by intense desire

These days alone are killing me
Waiting, there's no word
Each day is like a century
My heart, a wounded bird

A week, you said, oh don't you know
How long a week can be
All I can do is long for you
Almost want to be free

If these are the chains of love
The ties that bind our souls
It's almost just too much to bear
Almost wish I didn't know

How strong this thing called love can be
What yearning, longing means
Almost want to rewind time
Retreat into vague dreams

Come back, right now, my whole heart screams
And stay forevermore
I'll only be alive again
When you come to my door

If these are the chains of love
The ties that bind our souls
It's almost just too much to bear
Almost wish I didn't know
