To a dear friend with a hard choice
by Steven Vasquez
So what are you going to do,
bright eyes?
Now that your worlds askew,
and before you lies...
a chance for new elation.
Two hearts they beat and race for you..
Four loving arms to see you through--
the nights anticipation.
When stars are shining dutiful
but none as bright nor beautiful...
as Laura.......
Though you heart has taken new direction
Your soul remains pure and strong
Don't blame yourself for insurrection
Be true to yourself and you won't go wrong
And if you now feel like a falling star
or popcorn bursting from its kettle
Inside there's a fire inside of you
It's telling you not to settle.
Laura hear the voice inside of you.....
Never, ever settle,
Don't settle for once a week sex.
Or the other's cigarets,
Don't settle for love without passion
Don't settle for passion without stability
The silent type can be wonderful.
Silence is golden, but silence brings longing for what your
heart yearns to hear.
The expressive can be wonderful,
Only if their words speak to your very soul and not just
flowery dribble
If they speak truth then no matter how loud,
their bravado brings gentle peace and quiet,
And silence soon becomes deafening
Don't settle just because
For the flame you knew that was
But look beyond to see
A brighter flame that might be.
One that you have already begun
And if he's not the ultimate one.
At least together you've reached heavens end
And you're always welcome back to earth again.
If one is a safety net.
The other's a high wire.
At 21 don't be afraid to fall
A high wire tumble need not be fatal at all
And once you've crossed over I know you'll find.
a clearer understanding of what was left behind.
For if it was truly meant to be...
and he your lifelong lover
Your unspoken vows would have never allowed
a walk on the wire with another.
You know its true..
Flights of fancy are not you!
So what are you going to do,
Bright eyes...
Which one gets all of you?
When tonight the stars shine dutiful
But never as bright nor as beautiful
as you
my Laura.
Eternally yours
Steven
