Poetry: New Love
Secret Longings, Open Wounds
by Alfador Janus

The day my eyes graced your image
I felt my wounds resurface
Gazing softly into your lovely visage
Made me absolutely nervous.

There I was, alone with no method
In which to convey I wanted you
Yet I knew these feelings were not tepid
And I sensed that something could be true.

What a fool I was, for this supposition
Thinking that you'd be the last love I meet
After all, love is a mutual condition
And most certainly not a one way street.

The burning question still remained
If i would take on the task
If I'd ignore the scars of love that pained
In other words, if I would ask.

But we both know the answer now
My feelings concealed for many moons
My cowardice has overridden my heart
Perpetuating the secret longings and open wounds.
