Can You Win Back an Ex?

It's inevitable. Right after the break up, and the classic exit lines - It's just not working! I need space! - come the tearful promises to change. So we asked He and She...

Winning back an ex: is it romantic... or time for a restraining order?

He Says:

If your relationship was a good one (and, of course, wasn't abusive or harmful) and the reasons you broke up are within your control - meaning you can fix what's wrong - wouldn't it be worth it to try to repair the damage? It's that whole "don't know what you've got til it's gone," thing. Guys are clueless. Sometimes we need the threat of losing you to make us work harder at making you happy.

She Says:

If I broke up with a guy, it wasn't a decision I came to lightly and it's very awkward to be forced to keep rejecting him and all his unwanted attention. It also kind of hints that he's been half-assed about our relationship all this time and only now, when it's threatened, will he be the kind of boyfriend he should have been this whole time. Besides, in my experience, if you do fall for those promises of change, you wind up back in the same lousy relationship you were in before and have to dump him all over again.
