I was excited to go back to visit in my old hometown, and really excited to reconnect with my high school sweetheart. We had broken up in college and both moved on, but had discovered we were both single once again and made plans to meet up. She met me at a nice restaurant wearing a dirty shirt and cut-off pants. Her hair was a complete mess and she chain smoked the entire time. To say the years had not been kind to her was an understatement. Still, I could have dealt with all that if not for her attitude. She was constantly slamming men and saying how awful they all were. When I jokingly told her I was one of them, she replied, “I know, but I needed a free meal.” When the date was over, I once again moved on without her. -- Tony, 43
