Steve and I had dated for a while and he had always described himself as a struggling artist. Finally, I got to go to his place and see his work. I was very excited as I walked in and looked at the many paintings he had around the room. My jaw dropped and I was speechless. He told me people reacted that way all the time, and he seemed to think this was a compliment. It wasn’t. Every single painting looked like a five year old had drawn it. They were all truly awful.
