A Head-to-Toe Guide to Male Body Language
By Laura Snyder
Sure, you could wait around wondering what that cute guy is thinking and speculating on his interest in you. Or you could just check out his body language. Men are biologically programmed to send out certain physical cues when they're interested in a woman. You just have to know how to spot 'em.
Male Messages: The Eyes Have It
There's truth to that 'eyes are the window to the soul' crap. Eye contact, raised eyebrows, enlarged pupils and frequent blinking are all indicators of interest. But beware the guy who holds your gaze a little too long. That kind of intense eye contact isn't natural and he may be trying to play you.
Male Messages: Smile On
Obviously, smiling is a good sign. Look for one that's full and genuine. A coy, closed-mouth smile indicates that while he likes you, he's feeling a little shy or insecure. Exercise caution with the guy who gives you a smirk or half-smile; such "split face" gestures reveal insincerity.
Male Messages: Treasure Chest
Whether it's you, the keg or the championship game on the TV, whatever a guy aims his chest and upper body towards is the most important thing in the room, even if his eyes are looking somewhere else. If his torso turns your way, you can be sure you have his interest.
Male Messages: Hands Down
We humans pay special attention to hand gestures; we even have a special region of the brain that processes only hand shapes, they're that important. When he offers his palm to you face up, he's (literally!) trying to reach out and connect on a deeper, emotional level. A guy who often gestures while speaking is a good communicator (and may also be especially expressive and attentive in bed, to boot!)
Male Messages: Midriff Memos
Guys who stroke their stomach will want you to stroke their egos. Tummy touchers tend to enjoy being the center of attention and need steady verbal reminders of your interest and affection.
Male Messages: From the Hips
An interested guy will touch his belt, hang his thumbs from his jeans pockets, or will stand or sit with his legs spread apart. He wants you to get a good look at what he has to offer. It's a biological instinct; he's not even aware he's doing it. Try not to stare.
Male Messages: Happy Feet
A guy who sits or stands with his toes pointed towards each other may be feeling insecure. He's probably into you but needs reassurance that the feeling is mutual.
