Hot Fun In the Summertime
What He Thinks/She Thinks About Love, Sex, and Who's to Blame
Many a romantic has been drugged by the hot sun and the scent of coconut oil into the arms of a near-stranger for a few weeks of summer lovin'. But when your beach towel is packed away and the temperatures start to cool, will your romance?
This week, in fond memory of our own holiday hookups, we ask He and She:
Can a summer fling last into fall?
He Says: Why not?
I don't think the promise of an actual relationship is negated just by the time of year you happen to meet. Sometimes great relationships can grow out of those sexy summer months. There was obviously something that drew you to each other in the first place - who knows without at least trying it out whether or not it's enough to keep you connected for the long haul.
She Says: Say 'So Long!' by Labor Day
The joy of summer flings is finding yourself in these impossibly romantic situations that could just never exist in your ordinary life. Flings, by their very nature, are with someone you can't have a future with - a guy who's too young, or just in town for the summer, or who lives in Istanbul. You shouldn't even get to know each other beyond, say, your summer travel plans, your IM addresses, and your kinky sexual preferences. Any talk of the future should be limited to what you're doing tonight and what time his roommate gets home.
