Jamie Lee Curtis: 'Don't shame celebrities going through divorce'
Jamie Lee Curtis is urging the public to not shame celebrity couples amid marriage break-ups she knows how painful it is for the families.
The actress' parents, Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, went through a very acrimonious split in 1962, and Jamie reveals it was painful to see them at odds with each other.
"My parents hated each other my whole life.," she told U.S. chat show The View on Tuesday (20Sep16). "I was raised in a house of hatred and, as a child of famous people going through divorce, I beg you: Do not buy magazines with these children on them, do not support the public shaming of people who are public figures going through divorce. I'm a child of it and I will tell you it's heartbreaking and painful enough..."
The 57-year-old's comments came hours after news of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's divorce made headlines around the globe, and while Jamie did not mention the estranged couple directly, her message followed a joke made about the split by co-host Joy Behar.
Meanwhile, Jolie's attorney, Robert Offer, confirmed the news to the BBC in a statement reading, "She (Angelina) will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time."
The actress' manager, Geyer Kosinski, added in a statement to E! News: "Angelina is doing what's best in the interest of taking care of her children. She appreciates everyone's understanding of their need for privacy at this time."
And Brad Pitt has spoken out about the break-up in a statement reading: "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."
