Warren Beatty to receive lifetime achievement honor

Veteran Hollywood actor Warren Beatty is to be recognized for his lifetime contribution to cinema.

The 79-year-old will receive the 11th annual Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film from The Santa Barbara International Film Festival on 1 December (16).

This year's event coincides with Douglas's 100th birthday, and the Hollywood icon paid tribute to Beatty's extraordinary talent in a statement.

"Warren Beatty upholds the highest artistic standards of the film industry,” Douglas said. "His choice of material has entertained us as well as made us think more deeply about the world we live in.

"I’m delighted he is accepting this recognition of his extraordinary talent."

Beatty will be presented with the award at the Bacara Resort & Spa in Santa Barbara, Deadline.com reports.

Previous recipients of the award include Jane Fonda, Jessica Lange, Forest Whitaker, Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas, Harrison Ford, Quentin Tarantino, Ed Harris and John Travolta.

Beatty's next movie, Rules Don't Apply - which he wrote, directed, produced and starred in - will be released on 23 November (16).

Set in 1950s Hollywood, the film follows the budding romance between a young actress, played by Lily Collins, and Alden Ehrenreich's businessman, which is forbidden by their employer, Howard Hughes, played by Beatty.

The 32nd annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival will run from 1 to 11 February, 2017.
