Loretta Lynn releasing first Christmas album in five decades
Country music icon Loretta Lynn has delighted fans by unveiling plans for her first Christmas album in 50 years.
The singer will release White Christmas Blue on 7 October (16), making a return to the festive music scene five decades after Country Christmas hit retailers back in 1966.
The project will also feature a new titular song, as well as her takes on holiday classics like Jingle Bells, White Christmas, and Silent Night, and updated versions of her previous original tunes Country Christmas and To Heck With Ole Santa Claus, reports TheBoot.com.
White Christmas Blue was recorded with John Carter Cash, the producer son of Johnny Cash and his wife June Carter Cash, at his Cash Cabin Studio in Henderson, Tennessee.
He also worked with Lynn on her Full Circle album earlier this year (16), her first collection of new material in 12 years.
The Christmas album is good news for fans as Lynn continues to recover from a recent fall at her ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.
The painful but minor injury prompted the 84-year-old to pull out of an annual Labor Day weekend show with her sister Crystal Gayle on 3 September (16), and postpone three other dates as she required surgery.
Lynn isn't the only musician to celebrate Christmas early - Neil Diamond, Kacey Musgraves, and Zooey Deschanel's duo with M. Ward, She & Him, are also helping fans get into the festive mood this year.
