WRONG TRACKS OR TRAIN WRECKS? Lindsay Lohan Vs. Nicole Richie By Emily Feimster
Move over Paris! You’re not the only bad girl in town. Child actor-turned-movie star, Lindsay Lohan, and reality star socialite, Nicole Richie, are making their own headlines as of late. In fact, their off-screen party antics and unhealthy eating habits have become much more memorable than any characters they’ve portrayed. Yes, these two IT girls grew up on opposite coasts, but their lives have had similar twists and turns as they’ve descended upon Hollywood. Take a look at how they match up:
Pix of Lindsay Lohan | |

| | Nicole Richie Vital Statistics: Hometown: Berkeley, CA Birth date: 9-21-1981 Height: 5'1"
| | Love Life: She has been romantically linked to Aaron Carter, Wilmer Valderrama, Jared Leto, and Harry Morton, to name a few. | | Love Life: She has dated music entrepreneur Brad Salyn, Brody Jenner, and Joel Madden. She was also engaged to Adam Goldstein, a.k.a. DJ AM. | | Star Power: She was named #14 in FHM magazine's "100 Sexiest Women in the World 2006." | | Star Power: She was named #37 on the Maxim magazine "Hot 100 of 2005 list." | | Trademark: Red hair, freckles, and that fiery temper. | | Trademark: Sunglasses that are too big for her face and baggy clothes. | | All in the Family: Her mother, Dina, who is a former Rockette, helps manage her career. She is also close with her younger siblings Michael, Aliana, and Dakota, all of whom are actors. She has a rocky relationship with her father, Michael, who has been in and out of jail for securities fraud and attempted assault. Nice role model, eh? | | All in the Family: Her biological father was a drummer who worked with Lionel Richie. Her biological mother was a backstage assistant for Lionel. They weren't prepared to raise a child so when Richie was three, Lionel and his wife Brenda Harvey-Richie informally adopted her. At age nine, the adoption became legal. | | Early Promise: Lohan began her career at age three as a Ford model, and also made appearances in over 60 TV commercials. She made her acting debut in 1996 as the third actress to play Ali Fowler in the television drama "Another World." Shortly afterwards, she was picked to star in the remake of Disney's "The Parent Trap," earning her widespread critical acclaim. | | Early Promise: Although she studied music early on, it would be several years before Richie pursued an entertainment career. She did have dreams of being an Olympic figure skater and worked eight hours a day for eight years in pursuit of it. After graduating from Montclair Prep High School, she attended the University of Arizona to study Arts and Media for two years. | | | Big Break: She was cast opposite Jamie Lee Curtis for another Disney remake, "Freaky Friday." It was a huge hit, generating over $160 million worldwide, and garnered both actresses much critical acclaim. Her next big film, "Mean Girls," helped catapult her into super stardom. And now she won't go away. Oh, did we say that out loud? | | Big Break: After heiress Nicky Hilton turned down the opportunity to star with her big sister, Paris, in the Fox reality series, "The Simple Life," the little known Richie was offered the job. She and best friend Paris became instant stars after they amusingly lived with a family in rural Arkansas for a month. That's hot! | | Now We've Got Trouble: This one has managed to stay out of jail, though we don't really know how. That certainly doesn't mean she hasn't been up to no good, as her widely-seen-on-the-web crotch shot attests. In 2005 alone she got in three car accidents, though none involved her being under the influence. However, it was confirmed in December that the infamous party girl began attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. At least that's a start. | | Now We've Got Trouble: In 2003, Richie was arrested in Malibu and charged with possession of heroin. She was also driving with a suspended driver's license. She ended up in rehab and came out clean. However, in late 2006, she was arrested for a DUI after motorists had reported that her SUV entered the freeway on an exit ramp and was traveling in the wrong direction. She admitted to using marijuana and Vicodin before the incident. | | Cat Fight!: Her first public feud started in 2003 when she and fellow Disney alum, Hilary Duff, reportedly fought over singer Aaron Carter. The two later claimed it never happened. Yeah, right! They're just embarrassed by the fact that they actually used to date Aaron Carter. We hear his brother, Nick, is available. | | Cat Fight!: In 2005, Paris Hilton released a statement saying, "It's no big secret that Nicole and I are no longer friends. Nicole knows what she did, and that's all I'm ever going to say about it." Though the public still doesn't know what the fight was about, the two have since reconciled. Whew! | | Health Issues: She exhibited dramatic weight loss during 2005 and as a result hired a trainer to help her eat healthy. In early 2006, she spent two days at a Miami hospital after suffering a serious asthma attack. That same week, Vanity Fair released an interview in which Lohan admitted using drugs "a little" and said she had recovered from "bulimic episodes" and that her 2005 hospitalization was for "a swollen liver and kidney infection." Lohan later said she was "appalled" that her words were "misconstrued". The magazine claims to have the interview on tape. | | Health Issues: Richie made numerous media headlines in 2006 with a dramatically thinner appearance. After disturbing pictures surfaced of her frail, boney body in a bathing suit, rumors of an eating disorder started running rampant. However, she attributed the weight loss to stress, saying it killed her appettite. In the fall, it was announced that she was seeking treatment for "an inability to put on weight", though it is not treatment for an eating disorder. She still vehemently denies that she has ever been anorexic or bulemic. Apparently weighing 95 lbs. is normal. | | Music: Her debut album, "Speak," was released in 2004 under Tommy Mottola's Casablanca Records. It peaked at number four on the Billboard 200. In 2005, her second album, "A Little More Personal (Raw)," debuted at number 20, but fell under the top 100 within six weeks. | | Music: She told Tyra Banks that her main focus was and always has been music. As of August 2006, Richie has six out of 10 tracks finished for her record. The songs reported to be done so far are a mixture of rock, soul and dance. As of January, her album has seemed to be put on hold. | | Acting Chops: She continued to do her share of cheesy movies with "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen," "Herbie: Fully Loaded," and "Just My Luck." She then recently transitioned into adult roles with "A Prairie Home Companion," co-starring Meryl Streep and Lily Tomlin. She also wrapped "Georgia Rule" where she plays a girl molested by her stepfather. | | Acting Chops: She's not as much an actress as she is a reality star. She did have guest spots on the TV shows "Eve," "Rock Me Baby," "American Dreams," and "8 Simple Rules." She also starred in the movie "Kids in America." She's also good at acting sober, unless it involves her driving a car going the wrong direction on the highway. | | Quotable Quotes: "I went to the Metropolitan Museum and just sat there. But they didn't take any pictures of that, which sucks, because that would have been more interesting than pictures of me coming out of a club." "Life is full of risks anyway, why not take them?" | | Quotable Quotes: "I think fame is harder when people have something to hide, but I'm very comfortable, and have nothing to hide." "I'm not insecure, but I'm not like, 'Hi, I'm confident.'" | | Current Activities: Besides watching her life spin out of control? Well, let's see. She's currently in "rehab" at the Wonderland Center in Los Angeles, but she seems to be more interested in leaving the grounds to go shopping and running errands. She's even been allowed to leave during the day to film the thriller, "I Know Who Killed Me." | | Current Activities: "The Simple Life 5" was scheduled to begin production in November and air in April, however, filming has been put on hold due to Richie's health problems. Besides the occasional shopping spree, she seems to be keeping a low profile as of late, taking some time to get her health in order. |
