Rebecca Romijn credits husband Jerry O'Connell for making it possible for her to keep up with the intense schedule of her forthcoming ABC "Eastwick" series -- and their twin baby daughters at the same time.

"I'm really lucky to have a super energetic husband who is taking a little bit of time off and who brings the girls to the set here and there," she tells us. "It's demanding, but it's a labor of love. Both things are. Nothing is hard if it's a labor of love."

But, she grants that it's challenging.

She notes, "They were with me the whole time I was doing the pilot. They were eight weeks old when I started it, and I was nursing. I mean, I even did a couple of all-nighters and they would have to stay in the trailer in bassinettes with either Jerry or a sitter. But, as soon as we finished the pilot, I got to do nothing but soak up babies and be a mom for awhile."

And now? "Now, they're seven months old and I want to really make sure they've got their own routine and they're in their beds by 8 p.m., and you know, that there's one parent with them all the time."

Rebecca admits there have been moments when she wondered whether she would be able to rise to her new responsibilities, both at home and on the series sparked by John Updike's "The Witches of Eastwick" and its 1987 big-screen adaptation. The series also stars Lindsay Price and Jamie Ray Newman, with Paul Gross as devilish Darryl Van Horne.

"Of course, I wondered, but basically, you just do. It's either a sink or swim situation. You find the strength. It's there. It's a big adjustment going back to work, but you know, mama's got to bring home the bacon," she says.

The babies are now sleeping through the night, according to Rebecca -- but with the rigors of shooting, she still finds herself sleep-deprived. "I'm sleep-deprived right now as we're speaking."

ON THE INSIDE LOOKING OUT: From George Clooney to Ice Cube, Tamala Jones is making the rounds in the movie world in-between filming ABC's "Castle."

"I had a nice little chunk of a role in 'Up in the Air' playing opposite of Anna Kendrick from the movie 'Twilight' and George Clooney. I didn't get a chance to work directly with George this time, but I was on 'ER' years ago and he remembered me. I thought that was really nice," notes Jones, who has some very dramatic scenes in the mostly comedic movie. "He's the best person I've ever worked with besides Chris Rock.

"He's very gentleman-like and he is humble for who he is, which is amazing. He's not a selfish actor. He gives you what you need in the scene and he lets you know if you should try something different, which I definitely appreciate. Hopefully, I'll get to do something else with him in the future."

In September, Jones can be seen opposite Ice Cube and Mike Epps in "Janky Promoters."

"Mike Epps cracks me up. He is so silly," she tells us. "I play a woman who has an affair with him. My husband is a police officer and he suspects that I'm fooling around, so he calls this show called 'Busted.' They actually hired the guy from 'Cheaters,' Joey Greco, to be the 'Busted' guy. The movie is hilarious."

In the meantime, Jones is back to work on her ABC series, which she was thrilled got picked up for a second season. "I think we were all screaming, 'Yes!' because there's really not a lot going on in Hollywood right now. Plus, we're like a huge family. It's crazy, because I've never had this kind of relationship with cast members, but we really are so close."

HE'S A DOLL: "G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra" actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is getting a kick out of the merchandising being done on the movie, which topped the box office this past weekend with some $54.7 million in grosses.

"I had an action figure already -- I had one for 'Lost' when I did Mr. Eko. But, this one is the first one that actually looks like me. A little man, a little mini-me, a little bobble head of Heavy Duty that you can have in your car," he says, referring to his "G.I. Joe" character.

Adewale spent two months on a "horrendous diet with next to no carbs" in addition to hard physical training for his role, but "after that two months of hard work -- Ah! There's a payoff. When you get comments, when you see yourself in a magazine." Adewale was recently named among Men's Fitness magazine's top 25 fittest men, under the heading The Action Figure.

THE BIG-SCREEN SCENE: A mid-October production start in Detroit has been set for the Robert Chartoff-Irwin Winkler updated remake of their 1972 thriller "The Mechanic." It has Simon West directing Jason Statham in the hitman role originated by the late Charles Bronson.

You may recall that the ice cold blooded killer finds himself in a complex situation after taking on an apprentice, who turns out to be the son of one of his victims. The younger lead role is being determined now, and casting of subsidiary characters is underway.
