Star of MTV's "The City," Whitney Port, tells us there are a lot of
advantages to having your own reality show, but it certainly doesn't
come without its share of inconveniences. For one, the Los Angeles native says it hasn't been as easy finding friends in her new hometown of New York City.
"You never know if people are trying to be your friend for the sake of being on television or if they really truly have taken a liking to you," notes Port, who used to star on the popular series, "The Hills." "Luckily, I have friends here that I've known since I was a little girl, so those are the people I tend to hang out with."
Finding friends is one thing. She acknowledges that dating is a whole other story. "It's already awkward enough going on a date, so to have cameras there just adds to it. But, I've kind of gotten the hang of it now. It's become like a way of life for me."
While filming the show has started to take up most of her time, Port says she remains focused on designing her clothing line, and she's determined not to let her newfound stardom get in the way of that.
"I think I just have a really strong family that keeps me in check, and I have a strong sense of self. I don't think anything like this should change you. This is just a job. It's not going to make me produce drama for drama's sake."
