Blythe Beck may be known as the naughty chef, but at least she's
nice -- in a sassy, fun kind of way -- unlike other chefs on television who have made a name for themselves for being nasty. She tells us her show on Oxygen "The Naughty Kitchen With Chef Blythe Beck' is meant to bring out the best in cooking, not the worst.
"I'm not a big screamer. I came up in that type of kitchen. It was a very militant, male-dominated kitchen where I was the only girl and they were mean and terrible to me. It was awful," she recalls. "My show is more about how you feel and how to feel better.
"It's the highs and lows of being a female chef in a very male-dominated world. You see me go through the triumph of good news and bad news. I'm on a quest for total world culinary domination and when you're trying to go up that kind of ladder, it's interesting to watch."
Beck says the show will also showcase a more genuine side of the culinary business.
"I have my reputation as a chef to consider and that's what's most important, so there are some really raw moments. There are moments where I'm really sad and other times that I'm really happy," she explains. "I don't get my hair and makeup done every day. I don't show up all dressed up. It's a real show and I think that's going to resonate with a lot of people, especially women.
"Luckily, Oxygen is so pro-women living their life out loud and if that's not me, I don't know what is."
