With "King of the Hill" behind her, Kathy Najimy is laying plans to
return to the stage. "I'm working on my own one-woman show right now," she tells us. "It's going to be a little bit darker than people
expect.
"I want to tell the truth about everything -- about my time in Hollywood, about me, about my life," she explains. "Not that there are any big secrets, but I've seen a lot of one-person shows where they choose uncomfortable moments they want to reveal, but I feel like even that isn't quite truthful. I just want to reveal everything."
The
comedic actress of "Sister Act" and "Hocus Pocus" fame is, of course, a seasoned pro when it comes to writing shows. Her popular "Back to Bacharach and David" musical revue had its first West Coast run in L.A. earlier this year. And, her stage work with fellow funny lady Mo
Gaffney continues to be a fan favorite years after the duo went
separate ways.
"One of the reasons we put together the 'Kathy and Mo' DVD is so we wouldn't really have to do Kathy and Mo anymore and so that my daughter would have an account of what I did for half my life," she notes. "It has both of the HBO specials on it that people have historically taped off the TV onto VHS, and it's got 25 years worth of material from the first bar we ever played in to being off-Broadway."
As for a possible re-teaming with Mo?
Najimy says she hopes they'll work together again in some capacity. "I love Mo and
I can't imagine that we wouldn't. We have such a similar sense of
comedy and it's so rare to find."
In fact, going back to the
one-woman show she's currently writing, she says, "I'm sure Mo will be a part of in some way, whether she helps write it or direct it."
